Lilian Vieira is best known as co-founder and front woman of the brazilectro formation Zuco103 with whom she tours the world. In 2010 Zuco103 took a so-called creative break, and the individual members undertake other and different projects. “In this pause following the international tours with Zuco103, I was surprised in my dreams by lyrics and melodies. I could not help but record them.” These dreams, combined with the inspiring Samba Soul theatre tour in 2008, drove her to create a new group Lilian Vieira Grupo to record her  debut album. During a musical trip to São Paulo in 2013 Vieira and her producer Wiboud Burkens, together with musicians from her band met João Parahyba – one of the founders of the Samba Soul. During this meeting they laid the foundation for songs on her debutalbum: Longe and O Que Eu Mais Queria. You will almost physically experience the heat in the tiny studio, the vapour on the windows and the sweat on the back when listening to these songs. And when Burkens asked Parahyba to describe Vieira’s music, he said: Samba Soul. After her debut album followed to more albums by Lilian Vieira and her Grupo: Tanta Coisa (2016) and Canta Samba (2018)Canta Samba, the latest album by Lilian Vieira Grupo, shows us the many sides of samba, known all over the world as the dance music of the Brazilian carnival: exciting, majestic and exuberant.

Bleeding Amazonia

The Millennium Jazz Orchestra highlights different sides of Brazil in the crossover production Bleeding Amazonia. Texts by Brazilian poets are combined with music and singing by Lilian Vieira.

‘Bleeding Amazonia’ is a brand new composition by Joan Reinders, with lyrics by poet Thiago de Mello. He has long been committed to protecting the Amazon. The five-part suite mixes Brazilian music with jazz and Big Band.

After the intermission, The Millennium Jazz Orchestra will play music by Brazilian composers. Soloist in Bleeding Amazonia is the Brazilian Lilian Vieira.
